Scandinavian Airlines is the flag carrier of three countries, Sweden, Norway and Denmark and it is the largest airline in Scandinavia. Scandinavian Airlines was founded on 1st August 1946. The airline has its headquarters at the SAS Frosundavik Office Building in Solna, Sweden. Scandinavian Airlines primarily operates out of Copenhagen Airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. Scandinavian Airline flies to over 104 destinations on a fleet of 134 aircrafts. Scandinavian Airlines is the ninth largest airline in Europe. Scandinavian Airlines is one of the founding members of the Star Alliance network with Air Canada, Lufthansa, Thai Airways and United Airlines.


Scandinavian Airlines operates on a fleet of 162 aircrafts, this number includes the aircrafts operated by its subsidiaries.  Scandinavian’s fleet includes Airbus A319-100, A320-200, A321-200, A330-300, A340-300 and Boeing 737-600, 737-700, 737-800 and Bombardier CRJ900. Scandinavian is in the process of renewing and revamping its fleet in order to reduce emissions and also to have specialized aircrafts for short, medium and long-haul flights.


Scandinavian Airline flies to over 116 domestic and international destinations. Scandinavian Airlines flies to 16 cities in Norway, 14 cities in Sweden, 3 cities in Denmark, 7 cities in Finland, 64 cities in Europe and a total of 9 cities in Asia and the United States.

Scandinavian Airlines connects a few major cities of India to the world as well, though there are no direct flights, Scandinavian Airlines offers 40 flights a week to and from India. The routes on which Scandinavian operates to and from India are, Mumbai- Copenhagen, Chennai- Copenhagen, New Delhi- Stockholm, Bengaluru-Copenhagen, London-Trivandrum, Brussels- Chennai, Milan-Mumbai, Zurich-Bengaluru, Frankfurt-Chennai and Athens-New Delhi.

Cabin Classes:

Scandinavian Airlines is a full service carrier and hence its aircraft cabins are divided into three classes namely SAS Go, SAS Plus and SAS Business.

SAS Go is like the Economy of other airlines. SAS Go fares come with 24-hour money back guarantee, ticket change for a fee, mobile boarding pass, advanced seat reservation, comfortable seats with adjustable neck rest and passengers are served with meals, coffee, tea and a non-alcoholic drink on board the flight.

SAS Plus comes with all the SAS Go facilities and in addition to them passengers enjoy separate cabin with wider seats and more legroom, power outlet at each seat, SAS fast track security access, priority check in and baggage handling and SAS lounge access.

SAS Business class passengers enjoy all the facilities of SAS Plus and in addition to them they have separate cabin with lie-flat beds to ensure the passenger arrives at the destination fully rested. SAS Business passengers have access to an in-flight buffet and also they are provided with a comfort kit.

In-flight entertainment:

Scandinavian Airlines offers movies, music and games on personal screens, Audio Visual on Demand is also available for all passengers. The newer aircrafts also provide passengers with WiFi facility in the air, this service is free for SAS Business and SAS Plus whereas SAS Go passengers will have to pay a fee to surf the net.

Baggage Allowance:

Baggage Allowance varies with the route and class of travel. Majority of Scandinavian Airlines flights allow SAS Go passengers to check in one piece of luggage weighing not more than 23 kgs. For passengers travelling SAS Plus, this allowance gets doubled and they are allowed to check in two pieces of luggage weighing not more than 23 kgs each, the allowances increases furthermore for passengers travelling SAS Business, They are allowed to check in two pieces of luggage each weighing not more than 32 kgs.

Carry-on luggage allowance is restricted to 8kgs for SAS Go passengers, whereas passengers travelling SAS Plus and SAS Business are allowed to carry on two pieces of luggage weighing not more than 8 kgs each. In addition to this passengers are allowed to carry a laptop bag and a ladies bag free of charge.

Passengers are advised to check their luggage allowance at the time of booking their flight tickets.

Online Check-In / Web Check-In

Passengers should have confirmed booking reference number for this facility. Maximum 06 passengers can do online check-In in one go. If have booked for more than 06 passengers in the group than you must have to do the check in again for remaining passengers. With SAS Online Check-in service, passengers can choose the seat before departure free of charge. Online Check-in allows SAS Passengers to get lounge access when checking-in online and to pay for extra baggage at the same time.

Online Check-in with SAS is available from 22 hours to 2 hour before departure. This also applies for LOT Polish Airlines, BMI Regional and Lufthansa flights departing from Scandinavia. Scandinavian Airline launched its frequent flyer program EuroBonus on April 27th 1992. In today’s day Scandinavian Airline frequent flyer program EuroBonus has over 55 partners. EuroBonus has won the most number of Freddie Awards, a prestigious award within the frequent flyer program world.

There are three levels of EuroBonus, basic, Silver and Gold. Members are automatically upgraded to the higher level once they have accumulated a certain number of Basic points within a 12 month period.
