Cathay Pacific was founded by American Roy C Farrell and Australian H de Kantzow on 24th September 1946, Initially Cathay Pacific was based in Shanghai and eventually established its base in Hong Kong. The airline made its first non-stop transpolar flight in 1998, this was also the maiden flight to arrive at the new Hong Kong international Airport.

First Class passengers are allowed to carry 40 kgs of baggage with a size restriction on the bag. Business Class passengers enjoy award winning seats with priority check in, boarding and fine dinning. They are allowed to check in 30 kgs of luggage. Premium Economy passengers enjoy dedicated check in counters, on board the aircraft they enjoy spacious seats which allow 8 inch recline with ample leg room and a 3-position footrest, Premium Economy passengers are allowed to check in 25 kgs of luggage. Passengers travelling Economy Class travel better than ever, the seats in the Economy allow 6 inch recline and ample leg room. Economy travelling economy can check in 20 kgs of luggage. The cabin baggage allowance for these four classes also differ, First Class passengers are allowed to carry 15 kgs of cabin luggage, whereas Business Class, Premium Economy and Econmy passengers are allowed to carry 10kgs, 7kgs and 7kgs respectively.
